Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning - How it Works
If you have previously studied or have experience in the industry, you could be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). If you are interested in applying for RPL or aren't sure what it involves, please read the following, simple guide:
What is RPL?
RPL or Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment of your previous learning or working experience by the college, which could determine if you receive credit for some units or aspects of your course. This mainly applies to students wishing to study our Master Diploma, who have had previous experience or study in the health or aromatherapy industry.
What does it mean to receive "credit"?
If you are assessed as being able to receive credit for your learning in some units of your course, you will be marked as having already completed those units. You will not have to study these units again, and you may receive a discount on your overall course price. However, RPL fees may still apply.
Okay, so how do I know if I am eligible for RPL?
If you have previously studied or worked in the health industry or holistic health industry - particularly in the area of anatomy and physiology - and can show recognisable evidence of this, you may be eligible to apply for RPL. ACOA handles RPL approval on a case-by-case basis, so if you aren't sure if you are eligible or not, be sure to ask one of our friendly staff about applying.
Got it! How do I apply?
If you think you are eligible and would like to apply, the best thing to do is to speak with your ACOA course advisor, who will inform you on how to proceed with your RPL application depending on your individual situation.
